Hurricane season makes life difficult

Hurricane Oil Spill

Is anyone else worried about this hurricane season and how it’s going to impact the oil spill? I’m very worried, because with all that oil in the water, which has been relatively calm these days, the hurricanes are going to stir that hot mess all over the place, push it onto shore, and send it into the gulf steam that will whip it around Florida, up the east coast, and across the Atlantic to Europe. Is this what we’ve been waiting for?

The importance of friends

FriendshipHow do you spend your days? If you are like most people, there is at least a small part of your day spent communicating with or spending time with a friend. They’re there when times are difficult; they’re there when times are good. When you have wonderful news to share, they’re right there with you, or on the other end of the phone or email sharing that news with you. But just how important are they? And what benefit are they to our lives?

Vaguebooking should be a crime

VaguebookerOkay, I’m sure we’ve all seen it. Someone on our Facebook friend list leaves a vague message on their status – something to the effect of “Why does it have to be so difficult?” or “I just don’t understand it.” There’s no content. There’s no reason to even pursue it. It’s Vaugebooking!!

So why do people do it? Why do they feel the need to draw attention to themselves without actually saying anything? Could it be that they are in need of attention? Are they starved for attention and need someone to actually come up to them and ask them, “Oh, dear! What in the world has happened?!”

To be … or not to be … GAY

Boy ScoutsIt appears that the city of Philadelphia is continuing its pursuit against the Boy Scouts of America. And I have to say BRAVO!!

As you may know (or not), the Boy Scouts ban gays. They’ve put themselves on their own pedestal to rise above human rights, which is their right to do since they are a private club. But here’s the problem: the Philadelphia chapter (the Cradle of Liberty Council) headquarters resides in a building owned by the city. For three years, the city of Philadelphia has requested the city chapter change its views on homosexuality and the rejection of gays in the club, but the Boy Scouts have rejected every attempt. But here’s the rub: the city of Philadelphia does not discriminate against gays. The Boy Scouts of America get free rent from a city-owned property. Do you see the problem?

Bloom Where You’re Planted

Buddha Face

To bloom where you’re planted, simply put, means to make the best out of any situation. That’s very simply put; even watered down. When life hands you lemons, make lemonade! But what about the deeper meaning of it? There’s got to be more to it than just making flowers.

Petitioning God: Atheist with a Notion

Bald man's backSome time ago I came across a blog basically saying that you cannot petition God with prayer, speaking out against prayer and religion as stupid and wasteful in general. She’s one of those neo-atheists. It stuck with me (I’d found it totally by accident, looking for something else). The blogger continued to bemoan the fact that she was outraged and insulted when someone offered to prayer for her, and that she would rather rely on her confidence in science and her own judgment. I couldn’t help thinking how sad those statements were, even though she presented them as if she was so magnanimous in thinking that way – so highly evolved that she could rise above religion; and clearly, relying merely on science and her own (clouded) judgment, she will remain in question without any answers.

Obama Might Veto DADT

Don't Ask Don't TellI would like someone – anyone! – to explain to me why bills have to be bundled with a whole lot of crap in congress. Why do these people feel the need to wrap a whole bunch of crap together with something that they think doesn’t smell, just to get their crap through. Do they think the one good thing in the bill will make all that other crap smell better? Why can’t the House and Senate unwrap those bill packages and wipe off all the crap that Representatives and Senators stick in there – you know, make the crap stand on its own to see if it gets signed into law?
