The Government Shutdown, Obamacare, and Tigers, Oh My!

Government Shutdown 2013

[NOTE: This post was written a few days before it went live, so things may have changed a bit by the time it actually posts. So don’t bite my head off if it’s inaccurate now!]

I’m stymied. Now I know any of you who know me find that very hard to believe, but I’m positively stymied over this government shutdown over Obamacare!

Should Taxpayers Pay for Chelsea Manning’s Sex Change?

Soap Box

Well, it’s that time again, folks. Time for me to step up on my soap box.

Perhaps I’m wrong, and I beg someone to correct me if I am. As I understand it, Chelsea (Bradley) Manning, who feels she is trapped in a man’s body, and accused and sentenced to prison for 35 years for leaking hundreds of thousands of classified documents to Wikileaks, demands that she receives hormone treatments to live as a woman.

Oh, yeah? And I want liposuction!

USPostalService

Dear US Postal Service,

In my line of business, I receive, open, and date-stamp a lot of postal mail every day. It’s not uncommon for me to go through 3 and 4 deliveries a day pounding away with that incessant date stamper on everything that comes in. However, recently I started seeing (quite regularly, I might add) … um … let’s call them “mistakes” that you’ve been making. These “mistakes” generally end up looking like they’ve been eaten by the dog, or used to prop open a garage door.

Gun Control

We all know it. We’ve all seen it. Everything from the news reports, to the laws and the discussions in the papers, in schools, in offices across the country. Ever since the mass shooting in Newtown, CT, a flood of discussions, anger, arguments, and denial over gun laws and the Second Amendment has been a major part of our lives. As I write this post, President Obama has just announced his plans for gun control, the NRA is up in arms (pun intended) about the entire issue, calling everyone that opposes anything they say an “elitist hypocrite” (Really?); and day by day, more people turn to the Second Amendment and ask, “should we do something about this?”

The Gay Pot Fiscal Cliff Complication

Well, the elections are finally (FINALLY) over and done – and even Florida’s votes have already been counted! Now we can knuckle down and get to work. We have a president going into his second term to finish (hopefully) the job he started, four states have approved marriage equality by popular vote, two states have legalized recreational marijuana, and by the end of the year all tax breaks will expire and the world will end as we plummet over the fiscal cliff everyone’s been talking about, dragging the world’s economy with us and throwing the entire world into the Dark Ages.

What’s This Election Going to Look Like?

I’m sure everyone else has been thinking the same thing. What’s this year’s election going to look like?

Already we can get a feel for it; and it’s almost a done deal that Mitt “Mittins” Romney will be the GOP candidate even though the primaries are not yet over and he doesn’t quite have all the necessary delegates. (Although, as an aside, that process alone will be interesting enough to watch how they all battle it out amongst themselves. Romney has basically declared his victory, yet Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich, and Rick Santorum have all refused [as at this writing] to step down or hand over their delegates to anyone; and if I remember correctly, not even Michelle Bachman has officially quit the campaign and given her delegates to anyone at this point. It’s like a bunch of children thretening to take their marbles and go home.) More

Is Christie Out of His Mind?

On one hand, we have the Governor Chris Christei – the Republican who tells everyone he’s not interested in running for the Presidency (at least not in 2012), is against homosexuality, who openly opposes “gay” marriage, and has just recently vetoed a bill passed by the New Jersey State Senate to legalize this “gay marriage,” opting for a public referendum. (Personally, I don’t like the term “gay marriage” – it’s just marriage; we don’t call it “straight marriage” or “bisexual marriage” for those who can marry today. Why do we need to call it “gay marriage” for the rest of us? But I digress.)
