NJ Standardized Testing

Standardized Testing
I keep seeing these ridiculous commercials in the Philadelphia tri-state region about standardized testing in the state of New Jersey. Mostly, it’s a bunch of parents and teachers whining and complaining about how standardized testing is the Greatest Evil this world has ever known! At least that’s what I’m getting from them. And if I’m totally off-base in my understanding, I would love for someone to let me know. More

Justifiable Judgmentalism

Judgment

It’s so easy to judge others, isn’t it? So much so, that it often happens before we even realize it. Someone cuts us off on the road, and we immediately recognize them as an “ass hole” or a “friggin moron!” It’s an unmistakable classification of humanoids, of course, distinguishable by their lack of charity or awareness of any other species in their vicinity. And because we’ve defined them as such by their behaviour, we are justified in our judgment. It’s a “righteous judgment” of sorts, just like anyone who drives faster than us is an idiot, and anyone who drives slower than us is a moron.

Government Shutdown 2013

[NOTE: This post was written a few days before it went live, so things may have changed a bit by the time it actually posts. So don’t bite my head off if it’s inaccurate now!]

I’m stymied. Now I know any of you who know me find that very hard to believe, but I’m positively stymied over this government shutdown over Obamacare!

Gabriel Metsu – Man Writing a Letter

Dear Fellow Diner Patrons,

It was indeed a pleasure to dine with you for breakfast on Mother’s Day. The food was delicious, as I’m sure everyone will attest, and the company was (as always) outstanding. However, there were a few things I noticed and thought I would bring them to your attention before the next major holiday.

Dear US Postal Service,

In my line of business, I receive, open, and date-stamp a lot of postal mail every day. It’s not uncommon for me to go through 3 and 4 deliveries a day pounding away with that incessant date stamper on everything that comes in. However, recently I started seeing (quite regularly, I might add) … um … let’s call them “mistakes” that you’ve been making. These “mistakes” generally end up looking like they’ve been eaten by the dog, or used to prop open a garage door.

Did Everyone Get Their Gold Star?

I’ve been noticing more and more that people, in general, are less concerned with anyone else in the world. Their focus is completely on their own, little, limited world and how it relates to who they are and what they want and what they need. Anyone else’s needs – if they don’t directly relate to their own – are outside of that scope and are of no importance. It’s plain and simple; black and white; cut and dry.

I just experienced one of the most disgusting things a person can do in public and still get away with it: Someone hocked a loogie the size of a softball out of an SUV while waiting for the light to change. And what made it worse? It was a woman (at least what appeared to be a woman, but I could be wrong about that as well).
