Kitchens, Spiders, and Paper Bags

Paper bags are good. Though you’re less likely to see them these days – they’re somewhat of an anomaly what with the idea of being green, etc. I remember when growing up, every grocery store had stacks of large paper bags at the end of the cashier’s lane where young boys dressed impeccably in starched white would sort out your groceries, placing heavy items on the bottom, and lighter items on top, packed perfectly and never squashing the fresh bread.

Or was that on an episode of “Leave It to Beaver?”

Can We Please Stop Writing Like We’re in 6th Grade?

What is society’s fascination with punctuation? It’s all about the periods, the commas, the question marks, and the exclamation marks. It’s almost like the more you use, the better of a writer you’ll be – or the more intelligent you’ll appear to others. I mean sure, it’s fine in personal emails, or chats, or text messages; but when you move into professional (or pseudo-professional) writing, perhaps it’s best to leave the excess punctuation to the giddy 6th grade school girl besotted with the handsome young man who smiled at her:

OMG!!!! Did you see??? He just smiled at me……… like he looked at me like he like liked me!!!!!!! 🙂

What Did You Just Say?

Have you ever been in a social situation where someone is speaking to you, and for the life of you, you simply cannot understand what they are saying? Maybe it was a really strong accent, maybe they just had oral surgery and have cotton swabs in their mouth, perhaps they were stung on the tongue by a bee, or maybe they were actually speaking a language. Either way, it all comes out the same: What the hell was that?
