Dear US Postal Service,

In my line of business, I receive, open, and date-stamp a lot of postal mail every day. It’s not uncommon for me to go through 3 and 4 deliveries a day pounding away with that incessant date stamper on everything that comes in. However, recently I started seeing (quite regularly, I might add) … um … let’s call them “mistakes” that you’ve been making. These “mistakes” generally end up looking like they’ve been eaten by the dog, or used to prop open a garage door.

I don’t know what made me think of this the other day, but a memory of my childhood resurfaced during my morning ablutions. It was a very fond memory of me with my father when I was a wee child, and I thought I would mention it in hopes that other fathers (and mothers) of today might take this up and continue it like my father did with me (but then again, that was in another age that existed long before the Internet, iPhones, iPads, and iConsciences; but I digress).

We all know it. We’ve all seen it. Everything from the news reports, to the laws and the discussions in the papers, in schools, in offices across the country. Ever since the mass shooting in Newtown, CT, a flood of discussions, anger, arguments, and denial over gun laws and the Second Amendment has been a major part of our lives. As I write this post, President Obama has just announced his plans for gun control, the NRA is up in arms (pun intended) about the entire issue, calling everyone that opposes anything they say an “elitist hypocrite” (Really?); and day by day, more people turn to the Second Amendment and ask, “should we do something about this?”

The Doglette Housetraining Enigma

Well, the saga continues. Granted, in doglette training (doglette = little dog) the amount of time we spent on their housetraining is incredibly minimal – we’ve only had them for about 2.5 months. We try not to get entirely frustrated with the process, remembering that it takes time; but some days we pause for a moment, sidle up close to a wall, and bang our heads repeatedly.

Somehow, the whole housetraining thing has eluded us like two doglettes wrapped in an enigma.

Well, here we are. 2013. Whoda thunk we would see such a year? I mean, with the three apocalypses, alone, scheduled so close together, who thought we would have even made it to see 2013?
